Implication of Red line

I have just sold an M8 and the buyer informs me there is a red line at high ISO. He has sent a sample and I can see it. However in all the time that I have had the camera and shot over 13.000 shots I have never seen this. In fact I have a whole batch of shots just before I sold at ISO 1250 without any tell tale sign, I wonder what is going on:confused:

Could this be a one off, or is this tell tale signature of a sensor under duress? I want to be fair to the buyer so I would welcome any thougths forum members may have on the best way to proceed.

I don't want to monopolise this thread but several questions occur to me on which I hope to get some understanding.

a) Could the red line be specific to certain process condtions of the photo editor, or would all photo editors show the same result?

B) Could the red line be intermittent?

c) If it doesn't show up in normal condtions under normal use of the camera, but still can be replicated in certain stress condtions high iso, strange lighting, is this a real problem?

d) Is the only way to deal with the red line to have a new sensor, or can it be remapped, how much roughly for each alternative?

Hope the collective brain that is the forum can come up with some information.

Sounds like an unfortunate coincidence that the sensor got zapped in transport. I would suggest that you first send it to Leica for evaluation. Sometimes it is possible to remap the sensor, and it is not unknown that a sensor get replaced as a courtesy. If the repair is a bllable sensor replacement it is another matter, though....

Thanks Jaapv.

I have asked the buyer to go out and shoot normally, ie at various iso's etc and see if the line is detectable. If not (my suspicion) but is reproducible at long exposure and high iso does this indicate a "bad" sensor or a normal one?

Of course Wattsy, I have already offered that once I am satisfied there is a problem.

My course of action is to access the problem, if there is one and then act. So I am trying to establish what causes the red line, is it a permanent feature once it appears, is it related to the iso, is it related to photo editor settings, etc?

So far I have been sent a high iso shots of long shutter duration of a black object, hardly a normal viewing/photo. As I say I have never detected the line in all the time I had the camera.

Can anybody explain why the red line appears in these stress condtions (for instance I never went above 1250 iso with the M*) and is not visible in normal use?
