Just a warning to all: I read somewhere in these forums before gettIng the Leica OVF for the X1 that some had experienced the rubber ring around the eyepiece falling off. I sort of shrugged and figured it would be an exceptional case. But I can now report that within just 3 months of buying the EVF, the rubber ring has indeed fallen off and was lost while out shooting! I just looked down and it wasn't there!

I took it back to the Leica store in Hong Kong (where I purchased it) and their response was: "Sorry, no warranty for accessories. Bad luck."

Not happy!

I lost that ring as well which because I need glasses it was a potyential problem. I received a free one by the italian importer of Leica, the only problem was that being in summer (holiday) season I had to wait 6 weeks! But to be fair the importer told me that now they have it in stock, just in case!

PS: I just used two drops of glue to make it more difficulty removable.

Could someone please show a picture where the rubber ring goes?

I found such a ring in my bag but I don't know where it came from.

Thanks, K-H.

I canot shoe because my X1 is on the way to Solms (sensor dust) but the ring goes on the back side of the VF where you put your eye when looking through. I hope it helps.

Our of curiosity, I have the EVF, but the eyepiece has not yet fallen off so I'd like to take measures (glue, etc.) to keep it on place before it's lost. How does it remove, threaded, etc.?

Don't worry, wait a while it will remove itself. :)

....seriously it just pulls off.

PS: because I wear spectacles it's important for me to have it, to protect my lenses almost expensive as german lenses...
