earleygallery Posted February 16, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) ....since I've bought a Leica camera or lens. I have some pretty ancient gear by most standards, a lllf RD with a selection of lenses, the R3 (bought new) with another selection of lenses, and a Panasonic LC5 (D1) for my digital needs. I like the R9, but then the R3 does what I need it to do so why buy an R9? I'm not going to buy a DMR. I don't need an M8, lovely though it is. An M would be nice, and I'm still thinking of an M2 to complement the lllf, but then again I wonder if I'll still prefer using the lllf (I tried an M3 in the past). The benefit of an M would be access to new/er Leica glass of course. If I had the spare cash a new MP with 35 Summicron would probably be my choice. Digitally the Panasonic is fine, I prefer using film so its only for when I want immediate images or to carry when I'm not intending on taking photos. The D Lux 3 would be nice, much more compact to carry everywhere but then I'm put off by the lack of an optical viewfinder. Like many others I think there's a waiting market for a top quality compact digital rather like a digital CM. So here I am, enjoying my Leica's, enjoying this site, but feeling a little guilty that I've not bought a new Leica for a while. Then again that is also the beauty of Leica, the fact that their equipment is built to last AND their commitment to that longevity. So perhaps I shouldn't feel guilty after all! Advertisement Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Hi earleygallery, Take a look here It's been a while...... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
john_r_smith Posted February 16, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2007 James absolutely no need to feel guilty, I'm sure. One of the beauties of Leica gear is that it is so well made, and made to last a lifetime. The same goes for old Hasselblad, Rollei or Contax gear too. And because these are film cameras, they benefit from the very latest in emulsion technology. In a world that is otherwise rushing madly towards self-destruction, fine cameras, like fine guitars or solid wood furniture, represent a sustainable and sane approach to our material needs. wparsonsgisnet Posted February 16, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 16, 2007 James, not only are you not contributing to Leica's bottom line, you are also not helping consume SD cards, IR-cut filters, external hard disks, software, and the like. How can you sleep when the rest of us have to bear your share of the burden?
imported_peter_m Posted February 16, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2007 James, I was in the same boat with the same thoughts......... the winter been long... maybe cabin fever set in . I finally gave in and got an M6 found one in good condition at a reasonable price. Wasn't there that camera store that had one in the window close to you? stunsworth Posted February 16, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2007 James, my first Leica was a IIIC, then I bought an M2 and hardly used the IIIC again! Be careful before you try that M2 :-)
