So, just to re-cap, never visit Spain or Italy, but if one ignores that advice one should ensure that they carry (along with their Leica of course!) a knife, a taser, a gun and some pepper spray or similar.

Useful advice. Know any good lawyers to deal with the murder charges?

Love your melodrama.

I'm really sorry to hear of this incident. 25% unemployment for people under 30 is a sign of really bad times.

Glad to hear you are safe. Since I'm from New York, I'm always looking over my shoulder, even in Orange County, California.

I second that. Eyes are neede in the back of your head. In my 50 years of international travel/living abroad this is only the second time something happened either to me or my wife/girl friend.

Down town Chicago, two weeks ago. A Leica speaker at the Leica events got mugged and they took Mp, M9, Noctilux, 35 summilux, 90 Cron, adn 24 summilux.

The Leica rep called me yesterday to tell me the story.

BTW. I am from Spain too (Barcelona) though I live here in the USA.

Andy - while not meaning to belittle the distress of what your wife went through, I have to say I'm surprised to read that she was mugged inside a Starbucks? Mugged means robbed with violence or the real threat of violence, ...

Point taken, I simply used the wrong word (it does happen to non-native speakers, although I do my best to avoid it :)). You are quite correct, my wife was 'only' robbed, there was no violence involved. However, there would have been some violence if I had managed to get a hold of the thief.

Best,

Andy
