If you want to use your camera, Black paint sticks to your fingers. Much easier to shoot, especially in cold temperatures. It glues itself to your hand. Quite an incredible feeling. And when it brasses, down, it sticks even more to your fingers. So, the more you use it, the more it wants to be used.

Black chrome (or silver) is very slippery. Don't ask me how many times I almost dropepd my M8 and M7.

But I'll give Bill a point: Chrome is so soft and silky that it's the finish to choose if you are a fondler.

I'm with Bill on this one: Paint for users, Chrome for fondlers.

Hmm, I have chrome (m3, III, and others), black 'chrome' (m6ttl) and black paint (although not leica). The chrome seems to have worn best (40 yrs of use), the m6 seems to be getting thin on the edges after only 7 years of similar use, black paint wears and chips off more readily, some like the 'brassing', I don't!.
