philipus Posted October 9, 2011 Author Share #21 Posted October 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can we presume that your image shows all of the frame? At roughly the same scale, the original picture would look something like this: Could it possibly be that the white specks are actually part of the subject, i.e. motes of dust or something floating in the air? Below is the full image. This was the first b/w film I shot with the M3 and a 50 Summilux and I was surprised that, at 100% magnification, the image showed so much, well, stuff. It may be that there were problems when the lab developed. The same spots appear in the other images on the same roll (another example, again at 100% at 900x600px, is also below). Advertisement Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Hi philipus, Take a look here Is this grain?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted October 9, 2011 Share #22 Posted October 9, 2011 On my monitor your images have a width of 30cm. Hence, the small part shown as 100% crop is magnified by a factor of about 70. That's not too shabby. Unless I misplaced my decimal somewhere, that would give a print 2.5 meters wide. I don't know what the white specks are, and I don't know if others get "cleaner" results. I think I'd be rather content with your results.
philipus Posted October 10, 2011 Author Share #23 Posted October 10, 2011 You are absolutely right, they are scanned very large. And when shown on a more normal size they look all right. I guess I was just a bit surprised about the quality zoomed in. I think I will stick to other b/w films in the future actually. I do appreciate yours and everyone else's suggestions. Cheers Philip
