wlaidlaw Posted October 25, 2011 Share #24 Posted October 25, 2011 You are comparing a cheaper camera in a lower cost market, Vat free, with a more expensive camera, in the higher cost market, with 20% added. Hardly affair comparison by any stretch of the imagination Compare apples with apples. Andy, It would all be money out of my pocket, so for me it is a relevant comparison. Technically there is very little difference between the LX5 and D-Lux5. Wilson
andybarton Posted October 25, 2011 Share #25 Posted October 25, 2011 So, how much is the D-Lux 5 on the US Amazon site? That's the comparison to make. Alternatively, how much is the Panasonic on the UK Amazon site?

scsambrook Posted October 25, 2011 Share #27 Posted October 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) So, how much is the D-Lux 5 on the US Amazon site? That's the comparison to make. Alternatively, how much is the Panasonic on the UK Amazon site? I just love making price comparisons ... groceries, cameras, whatever! So the Panasonic camera (on its own) on USA Amazon seems to be around $360 (= £240 roughly) and the Leica on its own around $790 (= £530). On UK Amazon the prices are £341 and £590 respectively. I'd certainly get my son to get me the Panasonic in the States and bring it over for me. Dammit all, both models are essentially only a snapshot camera ! Leica can somehow manage to control (=maintain) their selling prices in the UK, even though resale price maintenance was made illegal decades ago. Interesting, eh? wlaidlaw Posted October 25, 2011 Share #28 Posted October 25, 2011 You can of course, come to a private arrangement with your local dealer. I have had an understanding with mine for some years and get given what Leica permits as a "professional photographer's discount". Wilson
