Scanning with ANR glass and Canon 8800F

too old to care

I ordered the film holder recommended by Henry for my Canon 8800F flatbed scanner. I had never been happy with this scanner, that is until now. This is my first scan using the carrier and ANR glass, I have not adjusted it yet, this is an out-of-the box scan. I am also including scans from the same negative using the Canon negative carrier. I am impressed with the difference.

The first and second photos are the Canon carrier vs the ANR glass carrier. The third and fourth photos are crops of the Canon vs ANR glass carrier. There is no sharpening, dust removal or contrast adjustments on any of them. All I did was convert them from a TIFF file to JPEG and reduced them to post here. Thanks again Henry.

I can't see that much of a difference, if any.

May be my old eyes, but I can now see grain. I also did a print (13x19) of before and after and there is a difference in those too. The one with the glass is sharper and the grain is apparent. I am going to play with the adjustment screws on the carrier to see if it makes it better too, but I am happy with what I have now vs what I had before.

First photo (left if shows two on same plane) with glass, second photo without.

Hi Wayne,

.... not need a trained eye to see the difference between the last two crops

the first has more contrast, relief, clarity and about the gray, it's grayer.

No doubt : the ANR glass significantly improves the image in general !

Wayne , I'm glad you were able to try this glass on your Canon

Best

Henry

PS: On EpsonScan I also did a test with a b&w negative (24x36) with glass ANR, film directly on the scanner glass

the result is like this !

.... with the agreement of Wayne here are two crops 100% of the front of our national library made of glass

note that with the ANR glass (on the support film) , we obtain already something very good and sharp

1- with ANR directly on the scanner glass

2- and with ANR on the support film

no doubt : "grain" on the film in n° 1 and lines sharper !

R8 + 70mm Elmar + Kodak TMax400 (home development)

Epsonscan V700

Best

Hello,

I know, this is an old thread, but the results with the AMR glass on the 8800f are very nice!

Which carrier and ANR glass did you use exactly? And where can I find and order it?

I like to scan 6x6 and 35mm film.

Thanks for answears!

Cheers

Try here Custom film holders for Agfa, Microtek, Canon and Epson film scanners. I am typing from IPad on road, but this is where I think I got mine.
