pimver Posted October 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, During my recent travel in the US and Caribbean I had changed my time zone settings on my M9 (latest firmware) to the local timezones Back in Europe, importing the originals in Aperture I found that the proper local time was applied, but all timezones were changed to GMT+2, which is Amsterdam summer time Tried the same in Lightroom, but found that the timezones are not displayed there. Am I overlooking something obvious here? thanks Pim
Advertisement Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Hi pimver, Take a look here M9 timezone issues. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted October 2, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2011 Maybe the Aperture settings are wrong. Are you using a Macbook that applies your GPS position?
pimver Posted October 2, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted October 2, 2011 yes, in aperture, but i really found this out because i wanted to add locations from a GPX file that I had recorded on y smartphone, clearly the GPX file maintains timezone information, and the M9 doesn't apart from now (without GPS) having the Aperture default timezone attached to the camera recorded time in the EXIF, which was set manually to the local timezone i have not found a way to change the exif timezone without also rolling back (or forward the time) So I can end up with the right timezone, but the consequence is the wrong time Changing a timezone in a GPX file would be a stop-gap, Even better would be the M9 recording the timezone
01af Posted October 2, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 2, 2011 Back in Europe, importing the originals in Aperture I found that the proper local time was applied, but all timezones were changed to GMT+2, which is Amsterdam (and Paris, and Berlin, and Rome) daylight-saving time. Adobe products cannot handle timezone information properly. When I complied on the Adobe User-to-User Forum two or three years ago, an Adobe engineer replied, "no-one needs this". I guess Aperture is no better.
mjh Posted October 2, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 2, 2011 For some reason, the Exif standard doesn’t care about time zones; date and time of capture is stored as DateTimeOriginal and DateTimeDigitized, but not the time zone. If you switch to a different time zone in the camera menu, all that happens is that the time is shifted by the difference between the old and the new time zone. The time zone just isn’t part of the Exif metadata, so there is nothing to be displayed.
