I have done some reading suggesting that a little is not an issue because it is not within the focal plane. Others have indicated that the dust can cause some flare in certain circumstances. Advice? If you ever want to frighten yourself shine a torch through a lens and look at it with a loupe. Â Most lenses are not airtight, so dust will get in over a period of time. But even if it ever became a lot of dust during many years of your ownership I don't think it would be a problem. It is amazing how much dirt a lens will take before image quality diminishes.
