Dust a big deal?

Friends,

I am looking to add a 90mm Elmarit M to my quiver. Some indicate "dust" inside. I have done some reading suggesting that a little is not an issue because it is not within the focal plane. Others have indicated that the dust can cause some flare in certain circumstances. Advice?

Thanks,

David

Unless it's really bad then there shouldn't be a problem. If you ever want to frighten yourself shine a torch through a lens and look at it with a loupe.

Most lenses are not airtight, so dust will get in over a period of time.

Steve, Thanks for your suggestion but life is scary enough;)

I think you will be OK with a bit of dust in buying a second hand lens. But even if it ever became a lot of dust during many years of your ownership I don't think it would be a problem. It is amazing how much dirt a lens will take before image quality diminishes. A very good choice for a 90mm as well, a terrific lens.
