Advertisement Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hi algrove, Take a look here choose only three lens`. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jco611 Posted October 5, 2011 Share #62  Posted October 5, 2011 1.0 or 0.95 Noctilux, and would you take both of these 50's out with you at the same time? Regards, Mark  Mark,  The Noct f/1 not the current .95. I would not take the .95 over the Lux 1.4 ASPH, the 50 Lux is a much better lens....
ramosa Posted October 5, 2011 Share #63 Â Posted October 5, 2011 35/50/90 ... The holy trinity would be my three-lens preference.

smdavey Posted October 5, 2011 Author Share #65  Posted October 5, 2011 Why so few? 18/24lux/24elmar/35lux/50 lux/90cron/90macro/135. And those are the new ones. And more Zeiss are not listed and older Leicas are not listed.  If I go to a windy/sand area I often take older lenses which have already been to sandy areas.  For the street I take a lux or Sonnar and keep it simple, i.e., 2 lenses max and often just one.  Yes, I usually pick 3 for a daily outing or more for a long trip.  Lenses are like ties, you own several, but can only wear one and try to match that one to the occasion.   why so few... i guess because i think if you limit yourself in lens, then you have to think harder about your shots.  and hopefully. because you think more about it. they will be better.  i hope...... Lord Fluff Posted October 5, 2011 Share #66 Â Posted October 5, 2011 why so few... i guess because i think if you limit yourself in lens, then you have to think harder about your shots. Â So, logically, why so many? Why not two? Or one? Surely your logic indicates one lens to be the best choice of all.
algrove Posted October 6, 2011 Share #67  Posted October 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) why so few... i guess because i think if you limit yourself in lens, then you have to think harder about your shots. and hopefully. because you think more about it. they will be better.  i hope......  Totally agree. Before I even take out my camera I sometimes think about a shot for hours, days, years depending on its locale. I look for a shot that I might like during this time period. Based on that I then decide on a lens or two or three or four or five. Often I cannot move forward or backwards and therefore having the "right" lens means bringing several. For me, street shots are different as I explain.

Although I often take more lenses depending on where I'm going, I really like the freedom and discipline of only one or perhaps two lenses.  I also find that I spend a little time deciding which lens to take with me, but usually it doesn't take days to years as per poor algrove;)  Mark

Some of those occasions I mention are in very distant lands where access to a specific location entails many months of planning, coordination and official approval, not to mention changing political tides. Others require months to obtain approval to enter certain lands which are either privately owned, off limits, etc.
