earleygallery Posted September 30, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 30, 2011 How doyou know for certain it's the camera?
treeplanter Posted October 1, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2011 Dollars to donuts it's your film cassettes. Jim B.
tobey bilek Posted October 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 1, 2011 Or the processor is at fault. If you had a camera that took the old brass film cassettes, there would be no issue with scratched film ever. That means an early M6 or older.

masjah Posted October 1, 2011 Share #6 Posted October 1, 2011 First try what I've suggested before - expose half a film, wind it back, get it processed, and see if there are scratches on the half that's never been out of the cassette. If not, then it's unlikely to be the camera.
Guest camera man Posted October 1, 2011 Share #7 Posted October 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Out of a roll of EKTAR 100 36EXP I ran only 20 frames through the camera. The last 16 frames are scratch free. The problem starts from frame 1 onwards. I think it as some thing to do with the manual rewind tension when the film returns into the cassette. andybarton Posted October 1, 2011 Share #8 Posted October 1, 2011 Does sound more likely to be the cassette, especially if Leica have looked at the camera twice already. Presumably the pressure plate is clean?
Guest camera man Posted October 1, 2011 Share #9 Posted October 1, 2011 On the last roll of film when opening the back I noticed a horizontal line of black dust from the 'cell' side of the film ( what is called the Ram Jet Backing on the film) on the pressure plate, never ever seen that in my life! The rewind knob becomes very tight towards last frames back into the cassette.
andybarton Posted October 1, 2011 Share #10 Posted October 1, 2011 OK. Send it back to Solms again, with a scratched film, so that they can see for themselves.
Guest sterlinstarlin Posted October 1, 2011 Share #11 Posted October 1, 2011 Do you tension your film after it's loaded? That should help with scratches.
