Anyone seen one, used it or like it?

Michael Geschlecht Posted September 25, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted September 25, 2011 Hello algrove, Â Welcome to the Forum. Â I like a regular narrow strap w/o a shoulder pad. You can adjust the narrow strap so when it is on your shoulder w/ the lens facing out & you pull the range/viewfinder window up against your dominant eye the strap becomes taught. That gives you a stop or so in terms of hand holding ability. Â I usually only carry it on my shoulder if it is under a coat or jacket. Preferably w/ the lens facing inward. I am continually careful to make sure it does not slip or hit something. Â I generally carry the camera w/ the strap wrapped twice around my left wrist w/ the camera & lens resting on my left hand. That's how I walk down the street w/ it. Â As a person sensitive to the unequal World left handed people live in I quite early on noticed an M is clearly a right handed camera altho the range/viewfinder WINDOW is ambidexterous. Â Best Regards, Â Michael
acielpete Posted September 25, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted September 25, 2011 Algrove, I have that strap on a M9 and it is excellent, wide enough to spread the load, does not slip, but compact enough to not be in the way, easily twist around the wrist and fit in the camera bag. Â Thanks that is very helpful. Â Do you use it on the neck sometimes or shoulder only? Â If neck, how does your neck feel after many hours of use? Â Do you think the leather is strong enough for just about any modern M lens on an M9?
acielpete Posted September 25, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted September 25, 2011 mostly on the shoulder, no problem with the weight. if walking a lot, and I don't need it right away, i can put the strap over my head with the camera hanging tight at my side under my arm or even my back, so it is quite comfortable as it is close to the body and does not flop around. marknorton Posted September 25, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted September 25, 2011 Don't touch it. If it's the one I'm thinking of, the screws which are used to adjust the length will happily scratch the camera finish and the cheaply made split rings at each end will ruin the camera strap eyelets. It's an example where no one in Leica has actually tested it for real.
Tim B Posted September 25, 2011 Share #7  Posted September 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, Mark, I use one of these on my MP and after an initial reluctance, mostly because it was rather stiff, I have come to like it. I have no problem with scratching; indeed because the MP doesn't have strap protection inserts above the eyelets like my M6 I use this strap in preference to the standard one because it is the leather of the strap that touches the camera body.  The 14455 is the wide leather strap, the 14453 is the narrower leather (now á la carte in various colours) strap - maybe this has different fixings, but I think they are similar to the 14455.  Mine doesn't use screws to adjust the length but pins a bit like non-articulated cuff-links that set the strap to various fixed lengths - possibly a downside due lack of variability of length. But the pins seem designed not to scratch.  You might be right about the wear to the eyelets, I haven't noticed. But now you mention it I will check.  Now that my strap is well worn in I find it very comfortable and it will even wrap around my wrist when I have the camera in one hand and ready for quick use. It is especially comfortable on neck or houlder if I have a winder and a heavy lens on.  My biggest criticism is that is is typically Leica - over - priced:)  Tim
marknorton Posted September 26, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted September 26, 2011 Yes, you are right, hey are not screws but like cufflinks to adjust the length. Maybe the MP is made of better stuff but they scratched an M8 on first (and only) outing.
