Mine is still perfect but for how long ?  BTW I use a soft "chamois" skin for cleaning the back screen and keep the Leica lens cleaner for lenses. Is it appropriate ? heninger Posted February 14, 2007 Share #3  Posted February 14, 2007 Screenpatronus.com... check the M8 sizeThey are great...  My Screen Patronus sheilds for the m8 started coming off almost immediately. I cleaned the screen well (as instructed) before putting it on and followed the instructions to a T - no use. They are very nice and glare free, but if they won't stay on, then they are not much of a solution.
Jack MacDonough Posted February 14, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 14, 2007 I haven't had any issues with any rear screens yet. I think of this issue as I did with a watch crystal. I have not needed a protector for my watch crystal yet either. Different story with touch screens, my Treo has shown damage, and subsequently I needed a protector for it. wlaidlaw Posted February 14, 2007 Share #5  Posted February 14, 2007 Any idea how to protect the back screen from scratches ? Mine is still perfect but for how long ?  BTW I use a soft "chamois" skin for cleaning the back screen and keep the Leica lens cleaner for lenses. Is it appropriate ?  I use a "Magic Mirror Cloth" which you can get from supermarkets. My problem is that I have a dominant left eye, so unless I think about it carefully, I instinctively put my left eye to the viewfinder. This means my nose always leaves a big "splodge" right in the middle of the LCD. I tried various LCD protectors with my Digilux 2 and none stayed on for very long. They also degrade the image a bit.  Wilson
marknorton Posted February 14, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted February 14, 2007 All you need to do before applying the film is to remove grease and a pec-pad and eclipse cleaning fluid does well. The ScreenPetronus is good but they too are easily marked by something like a fingernail. Â Memo for the M9... clip on screen protector please. LJL Posted February 14, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Memo for the M9... clip on screen protector please. Â Memo for M9....use a better LCD screen or build in a sealed, easily replaceable one like Canon has on the 1-series cameras. I have yet to scratch any of the three that I have, and shoot under some of the dustiest, coditions one can imagine, with lots of abrasion potential. There are some really good materials out there that resist scratching. The other inteseting thing with the Canon screens....if you do manage to mess one up, it can be repleced quite easily for not very much cost, and it is far, far better than those ugly plastic things that keep getting knocked off the Nikons and other cameras. Just an opinion....less "stuff" attached is better....fewer things to catch, fall off and lose. Â LJ

Interesting variation on practice. I NEVER flip mine. Wondered why they even bothered. Such are the difference between uses. Â RE. the M8 rear screen protection. I just use mine. Its fine. I don't use a Luigi case either. I just use the camera. It's a (beautiful) tool and gets treated as such, but with respect. That is enough in my view. gravastar Posted February 15, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted February 15, 2007 My Screen Patronus sheilds for the m8 started coming off almost immediately. They are very nice and glare free, but if they won't stay on, then they are not much of a solution. Â I had exactly that problem. Screen Patronus replaced them with ones that were cut to be 1/2mm smaller on one top and side. If you mount them with a 1/4 mm inset even all round I find they stay on very well. One has been on my M8 for several weeks now with no problems. The original screens lasted only a few hours before an edge or corner would catch and lift. I think the problem is caused by the rounded edges of the M8 screen. I've not had a problem with Screen Patronus on any other camera. Â Bob.
Lode Posted February 15, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 15, 2007 I have some questions. Â 1. Does anybody on the forum know why Leica have chosen for a plastic display? 2. Which material is used by Canon and Nikon? Â My cheap Olympus C70 has a glass display. After 2 years of use it's still without a scratch. I'm not that anal in handling any of my cameras and I have never scratched a screen to the point that I could see it when the screen was on. If I looked real hard, maybe but so what?  Rex

Jfelder2@nyc.rr.com Posted February 15, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted February 15, 2007 I custom ordered a protector from http://www.shieldzone.com to measurements. Works great. Been using one for my Canon 20D for awhile too -- doesn't peel off, doesn't mar EVER. Â http://www.SnapshotArtifact.org
