Another photo critique thread

It also seems a little baffling to me that some members like Ivan (whose work I admire and respect a lot, and try to learn from, bit by bit --though a hopeless endeavor I must admit) went out of their way to work on these anonymously posted images with an unusually high level of enthusiasm that they don't often show for images that are posted with a signature where the poster is actually asking for C&C. Why is that?

Ece,

Thank you.

I think, the answer to your question is easy to see. ..

Why bother, I keep telling myself!

Just look at what happened to me and others who offered sincere advice even when the image was posted anonymously. No need for me to add names.

Can't imagine what happens if I and others were to do the same on not anonymously posted images!

As from yesterday, and because, '' I like'' and ''offering advice'' is a no go, then it's the Thanks button on the posts I come across and like I'll be using from now on.

EDIT - Been around a bit more than you Ece. Done what you ask many times before. Stopped because of the usual things. ... Thought it was safer this time for obvious reasons. Was wrong. Lesson learned. Why bother?!

Just as an idea, why not have a section, in which people can put what ever photo they want and expect a fair and constructive critique on the photo they have submitted.

In order to have the good comment, i think that everyone on the forum should vote for 5 judges.

Each judges will look at each photo and pass his comments on. I think that you should see one or two comments which would be very similar and therefore this would be fair.

Also, may be the photo which has the best comment, could be posted at the top of the home page, for one month.

This is just my idea, if you think that this could be developed further great, if not, no problem.

warm regards

david

Just a thought, but I suspect that anonymously posted images could be immediately considered to be orphan works. Having seen some examples of images used in ways that their creators probably did not envisage and almost certainly would not approve of, this does concern me.

After the reaction to the last anonymously posted image (and lack of much actual critique in a long thread) isn't all this discussion just a bit pointless? I will continue posting my (© embedded) images and requesting feedback or accepting whatever does or does not get posted about them.

Ivan, it is true that I am a relative newbie and I sometimes -have to- spend long chunks of time away from the forum, and miss a whole lot as a result. I do hear what you are saying, reluctantly though, because it is ultimately sad that something that feels so basic like criticism/feedback on a photo forum would turn out to be so complicated and end up being so negative to turn people off (like you).

I hope that you will rethink this position and at least make some exceptions (there are always exceptions to the rule ;)) by giving your honest opinion on some of the posted images (going beyond the thank you button!). I would certainly appreciate that very much.

Ece
