tuck.kenney Posted September 18, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Leica users About 1 week ago, my Leica M8's LCD and control buttons suddenly failed to work. Still not working today. If I insert battery and SD card, close the bottom plate, and turn on the camera, none of the buttons works, nothing shows on the LCD screen, and the shutter does not work. However, when I press the button, the red light at the right lower corner blinks. I have tried new SD cards and batteries, and did not see improvements. Weird thing is: If I turn on the camera (rotate the shutter button from off to s) without a battery, and then put in the battery and SD card, the LCD will display the warning that the bottom plate is not placed. Then I close the bottom plate, and the shutter works, even though the control buttons still don't. Therefore, if I, in that order, turn on camera, insert battery and SD card, and close the bottom plate, I can still take pictures, even though the LCD and control buttons don't work. Has anyone encountered this problem? How would you solve it? Do I need to send it to Leica? Thanks!

jaapv Posted September 22, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 22, 2011 Actually whenever a camera comes in that needs opening, Leica will check it fully, bring it up to specification including all needed hardware updates and extend a one year guaranty on the whole camera.
