povlj Posted September 18, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm going to buy my wife, a vacation and family shooter, a replacement for her Canon point and shoot. (I'm a happy M9 User.) Thinking about a VLux, but am disappointed to read reviews about poor image quality. Same for Lumix ZS10. This despite 2.3"CMOS sensor and 14.1MP with Leica lens. So why rated inferior to Canon SX230 and 510? Also, why is VLux image quality reportedly much poorer than Leica DLux 5, with less MP and smaller sensor"? I would go with Dlux 5 (I have DLux 2) for my beloved, but zoom is too low for her needs. Comments to shed light on these issues would be most welcome. Thanks in advance, Povl

prunelle Posted September 23, 2011 Share #7 Posted September 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do you know the comparative sizes of the DLux and VLux sensors? Which D-Lux and which V-Lux? You should find the sensors' sizes here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/Main_Page#Compact_.26_Mini_Cameras. ldhrads Posted September 23, 2011 Share #8 Posted September 23, 2011 I bought a Vlux-20 for my wife's birthday. I'm very pleased with the images and the zoom. It replaced a Canon P/S as well. She likes the quality of the pictures from the Vlux and is happy to have her own Leica (she's a German lol). I wish sometimes it shot RAW! . I got a good deal through Tamarkin, just before the Vlux 30 came out. It's a little bulkier, not much, than her old canon. I took a bunch of shots at a Jackson Browne show, in the dark, no flash, 20 odd rows out from the stage. And I was very impressed, unfortunately they aren't on this computer or I would post! povlj Posted September 23, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted September 23, 2011 DLux5 and Vlux30. DLux has larger sensor, but both have Leica lenses.
povlj Posted September 25, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted September 25, 2011 Well, I guess I am going with the new Canon S100, with a 1.7CCD sensor or with the Leica DLux 5 with about the same size sensor. These two should provide the best image quality. Seems like sensor size is more important than a few more MPs, and I guess the Elmar lens on the VLux simply is not very good.
