Schnitzer Posted September 6, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Polaroid Sprintscan 4000 scanner that I would like to start using again. I originally had it operating on a Windows 98 system, I am trying to implement it now on a computer with a Windows XP operating system, but can't to get it to initialize. The original software will not work on XP. I have tried using pci_55_1.exe software which is supposed to work with XP. In my investigation for failure to initialize, I have also read to use pci_50_1.exe which was said to work with XP. Neither one has enabled the scanner. Has anyone had any experience using this scanner with Windows XP? If so, I would appreciate any help you can provide. Schnitzer

Schnitzer Posted September 14, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted September 14, 2011 I was unable to install the scanner with VueScan. During the installation process, VueScan specified that a Scan disc (Scan.msi) had to to be used. Tried using the XP recovery discs but Scan.msi was not found. Apparently the scanner will not install because of a software error on the computer. Since VueScan is compatible with Windows 7, I would like instead to connect my Sprintscan 4000 to my Windows 7 computer. This would require a Ratoc U2SCX USB-to-SCSI adapter. indicated by VueScan. Have not found any available. Ratoc website says they have been discontinued. Any suggestions for where to go from here as I seem to be hitting dead ends? cbretteville Posted September 15, 2011 Share #6 Posted September 15, 2011 SCSI is no longer the prevalent interface it was 15 years ago. But as allways, Google is your friend: Amazon.com: Ratoc USB2.0 to Ultra Wide SCSI Converter: Electronics Alternatively you could: - find old hardware on eBay and use Win98 - find a scanner that has a USB interface Carl
Schnitzer Posted September 27, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted September 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Sprintscan is working fine now. I was able to buy locally a used computer with Windows 2000. I plan to stay with the Polaroid Insight software inasmuch as I didn't see any advantage going with VueScan. Thanks for the helpful responses that were offered.
