Advertisement Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Hi dent, Take a look here M9 + Summicron M 28 ASPH stolen. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 5, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2011 I hope it was insured... Send your serial numbers to Leica as well. I notice quite a few posts on stolen gear lately. I hope it is not a side-effect that Leica's popularity is increasing with the sticky-fingered guild as well as with photographers.
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted September 5, 2011 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2011 Sorry to read about your loss, Jochen. >> Jaap Most likely it´s only a statistical sideeffect: there are many more LEICAs around than before (after 40- 50,000 M8/ 9s). Jeff S Posted September 5, 2011 Share #7 Posted September 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) An ideal thread to highlight some well regarded service providers? Varies by country, but the OP doesn't provide his in his profile. This comes up in threads all the time when others report similar unfortunate loss. Here is a recent thread from the UK that fortunately was proactive and not after a loss. Jeff

msk2193 Posted September 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 6, 2011 Sorry to read this, too bad Leica does not participate in this program!
viramati Posted September 6, 2011 Share #10 Posted September 6, 2011 Sorry to read this, too bad Leica does not participate in this program! may not be in the list but should be supported as the serial number is embedded in the the DNG file
jaapv Posted September 6, 2011 Share #11 Posted September 6, 2011 may not be in the list but should be supported as the serial number is embedded in the the DNG file Unfortunately: Particularly with Nikon cameras the serial numbers are sequential by model, so the same serial number exists across the different models, this is why we also grab the make and model
Me Leica! Posted September 6, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 6, 2011 It is poor luck to have such a camera stolen, this is certain. But (and this is critic of Leica, not of individual) this is a sort of inevitable result when it is known a camera is so expensive. Long long time ago was written, "Not esteeming the valuable prevents theft". This is to say, if you decide that a thing is valuable then it will always attract bad people who want to take it. Like Ferrari, or Rolex. This is very true of Leica if the thief know about cameras. He will always steal a Leica before a Canon or a Nikon because he knows he can sell it for so much. I imagine that if you set up experiment, where three cameras are left so thief can get them (let's say Leica M9, Canon 1D4, Nikon D3X)...if thief knows about cameras he will steal the Leica, if not he will steal the Canon or Nikon. I imagine the shithead who stole your camera is a person with knowledge of cameras. Still, theft is shitty thing to do, if it is camera, car, whatever. dent Posted November 13, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted November 13, 2014 Now after three years I got a letter from the police asking me dryly to pick up my camera. The heroes of this story: A honest and skeptical Leica enthusiast, a smart police woman and her colleagues who even tracked me down to my new home abroad. I deeply thank them whoever they are. The camera appears in good condition and unused since the theft. Yipieeee! dent
