dcuthbert Posted September 4, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) afternoon all, started to notice a rather annoying issue when using the 24 lux on the m8. It seems (well in my opinion at least) that the IR filter is possibly causing artifacts in some light situations. Example one (dark, outdoor light, 640 ISO and manual Example two (interior shot, good available light) As you can see on both of their faces, this weird blue hue exists. Any idea what on earth could be causing this?
Advertisement Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Hi dcuthbert, Take a look here 24 lux filter artifacts. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted September 4, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 4, 2011 It's hard to tell without seeing the whole image. These certainly do look like internal reflections (quite possibly from the filter) of light sources in the image. I know it's not always convenient in cases like this, but you could try making the same shot with and without filter. Maybe set up a couple lamps in the frame and maneuver the camera till (if) you get the smudge, then repeat without the filter.
ezc203 Posted September 4, 2011 Share #3 Posted September 4, 2011 I suspect it's "ghosting" (is that the right term?) Often happens when you shoot with a filter at night into a direct/strong light source. Not exactly a problem exclusive to the 24 Lux filters, but I do see this problem a lot when I'm using my 24 Lux at night.
ezc203 Posted September 4, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 4, 2011 And I also have the feeling you labeled your images the wrong way around?

Nothing to do about except avoid having bright lights in the edges or just outside the frame.
dcuthbert Posted September 4, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted September 4, 2011 Yes, sorry wrong labels. It does indeed happen the most at night, although this is the first time i've seen it during the day. Look I guess I could take off the filter, but what a hack to have to remember to do that. Very frustrating. Thanks for all the responses though
paisatge Posted September 5, 2011 Share #7 Posted September 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think it can actually happen to any lenses with the UV/IR filter on. Just stay away from strong light sources
ezc203 Posted September 5, 2011 Share #8 Posted September 5, 2011 True - but I find it to be a more common artifact in wider angle lenses.
jaapv Posted September 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 6, 2011 Yes - but : A. The angles are steeper B. The front elements are larger.
