uroman Posted August 31, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted August 31, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an upcoming event where some flash shots may be nice. I see very little on the Leica flash. Is it effective, useful, and what are general thoughts on it? Thanks

pico Posted August 31, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted August 31, 2011 I have a unit that shoot #11 bulbs for the Leica. I'm sure it will cover the subject and make a lasting impressions. Very expensive, but worth it!

bpalme Posted August 31, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted August 31, 2011 I'm happy with my SF-24D. Seems many people around here are happy with it too. I try to only use it for fill flash in the daytime but if I'm really press in low light I'll use it. If you're patient you can find an occasional deal on ebay.. I got mine in unused mint condition for $224.
ho_co Posted August 31, 2011 Share #7  Posted August 31, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) m9. have no idea on what flash  Basically, the Leica flash units SF 24D and SF 58 are the only models that work at top form with the M9.  I seldom use flash and find the SF 24D sufficient on my M8. If you need more flexibility or more power, the SF 58 comes out better, but it's much bigger and more expensive.  Some people use various Metz models, but apparently (I have no experience with them) can't use all the features of either the flash or the camera.  If you're used to simpler flash, any non-dedicated automatic flash will work.   As Wilfredo said, there have been many threads on this topic. The search function should get you pretty well under way.  There's a currently active thread on the topic in the M9 forum, http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/124821-flash-leica-flash.html.
