steed Posted February 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love my 35mm f2.0 Canadian Summicron (M mount). How does it stack up, in the opinion of the cognoscenti, against the other 35mm Leica lenses?
Advertisement Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Hi steed, Take a look here canadiam summicron (M). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wizard Posted February 12, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 12, 2007 Well, there are several Canadian f2/35mm Leica lenses. The original 8-element to start with, the last pre-asph. 7-element version, and I believe at least some of the two 6-element versions in between were also manufactured in Canada. So which one do you want us to comment on? Andy
steed Posted February 12, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted February 12, 2007 you were quite right to point out the distinctions. I'll perform the necessary research and rephrase a better focused question next time.
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 12, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 12, 2007 John, I will comment with regard to the non-asph and the asph versions. I have owned both, getting rid of the non-asph to acquire the asph version. The earlier version is flare-prone, so depending on your lens usage, you might do well to get the asph lens. leicapfile Posted February 13, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 13, 2007 If your question is directed to the same versions of a particular lens (e.g. 35mm Summicron v1, 8 element Canadian vs. Wetzlar) the is absolutly, positively, no difference optically (and construction wise) between them. Only the collectors are concerned in this area. Can only speak directly to the v1 Summicron above but highly suspect this carries over to all like Leica lenses produced during the same period at those two locations. lambroving Posted February 13, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 13, 2007 you were quite right to point out the distinctions. I'll perform the necessary research and rephrase a better focused question next time. Own and used a V.II for thirty years before getting the ASPH. No flare, good for both B&W and rich color, but not very sharp in the corners. The ASPH is sharp, sharp, sharp, but has much higher contrast and blocks color if you use it with a contrasty film in bright light. Can vignette slightly in the same conditions, but micro-contrast and resolution are unbeatable.
cbretteville Posted February 13, 2007 Share #7 Posted February 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a version IV 35 Summicron and a 35 'Lux ASPH. The 'lux sees more use these days, but looking at the shot below I'm reminded how good the cron is. This was shot at f8 on Delta 100. Welcome, dear visitor!
