OT, but last I heard, the "Rolls Royce" name was still owned by Vickers and was used by car makers under licence, even when the cars were "British".

 

VW were, allegedly, surprised when they found that they hadn't acquired RR, when they bought Bentley. Doesn't say much for their lawyers or due diligence.

Actually it is owned by RR aerospace/marine I was told by RR employees. Much the same construction as Leica has, where the brand is not owned by Leica Camera, but leased.

BMW took a leaf out of Rolls Royce's book by hanging onto the Rover brand, so the Chinese Rovers now cannot be called by name.
