andybarton Posted September 6, 2011 Share #182 Posted September 6, 2011 OT, but last I heard, the "Rolls Royce" name was still owned by Vickers and was used by car makers under licence, even when the cars were "British". VW were, allegedly, surprised when they found that they hadn't acquired RR, when they bought Bentley. Doesn't say much for their lawyers or due diligence. Actually it is owned by RR aerospace/marine I was told by RR employees. Much the same construction as Leica has, where the brand is not owned by Leica Camera, but leased. BMW took a leaf out of Rolls Royce's book by hanging onto the Rover brand, so the Chinese Rovers now cannot be called by name.
jaapv Posted September 6, 2011 Share #185 Posted September 6, 2011 No it isn't. It's as I stated.I was not disputing the current situation. To me it sounds like a game of brand name snooker between Bentley/Rolls Royce, BMW and Volkswagen.

AlanG Posted September 6, 2011 Share #188 Posted September 6, 2011 Since we are now into quality control of cars, this is what can happen when your brakes don't work at 170+ mph. I saw that car the day before the crash and the paint was perfect. Tony Kanaan Crash | Most Watched Today | The Best Online Videos
