albert Posted July 17, 2006 Share #46 Posted July 17, 2006 I have been enjoying my MacBookPro since March, 2006. Maybe I got lucky but I can't find anything to complain about. I started with a Woz-autographed G2S back in the 70's or early 80's.....I have bought just about every model ever made.....ie: cube, anniversary model, powerbook, ibook, powermac........so far so good.....Al
Guest guy_mancuso Posted July 17, 2006 Share #47 Posted July 17, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is anyone running these as a dual boot setup. Like to hear more about that
xrogers Posted July 17, 2006 Share #48 Posted July 17, 2006 I run a dual boot setup for work. I sometimes do device driver development, so have used the MacBook Pro running XP as a target for remote debugging---you connect the target to a development PC, and can control it via serial line or firewire (I use firewire with the MacBook Pro). This allows you to mess with device drivers (doing bad things that can cause blue screens to happen) without crashing your development system. I use the MacBook as a target when I want to test a device driver on a multiprocessor system. I've done the same sort of thing using Parallels (http://www.parallels.com) on the MBP, and it has worked great. I've also run Linux under Parallels when I needed another Linux system for a few weeks. This is the most versatile computer I have (and I am forced by work to have quite a few...). I can't speak for other people's use, but for my (admittedly rather strange) uses the MacBook Pro has been great. This is not a hack---it is a solid, fast, true PC when I need it for some of my work, and a solid, fast true Mac the rest of the time. I have no gripes about this computer as either a PC or as a Mac. --clyde
prk60091 Posted July 18, 2006 Share #49 Posted July 18, 2006 i bought a mb w/1gig of ram - it does run hot (sometimes very very hot) but it is not noisy - and it is way faster than my athlon m chip in my old winxp box i use boot camp for some work stuff and have photoshop (win version) loaded on it...runs again faster than my old athlon m chip in tiger i have been using gimp which runs to my mind faster than gimp did when i used it on xp ymmv
