Ive have been watching X1 used prices during the last 6 months , i have noticed

over the last couple of months that they have not been selling as easily and do not

now make £1K on Ebay , even the UK dealers are now having trouble shifting them

secondhand around this price , just at the time of year you,d expect them to fly of

the shelves they,re not , it may be that the introduction of the X100 is having

more of an impact on X1 sales than anticipated.

Until the X100 came out, the X1 was really the only APS-C sensored fixed 35mm lens compact camera there was, so now the X100 is on the scene its only naturally to see some dilution of the X1's second hand value, especially when a new X100 costs less than £1,000. I think the E-P3 will have a lot less impact - good though the Oly PENs are (I used to own one) the IQ of the X1 is still way better IMHO, especially at higher ISOs, which is where the micro four thirds cameras still struggle to compete.

As I have no intention of selling my X1 for a long, long time the used price doesn't bother me - especially as I bought a used one in mint condition for less than £1k..:D

I think it was Leica's announcement that they will announce a new interchangeable lens camera in 2012 -- which to me seems a ridiculous factor since that's still a full year away and it probably wouldn't actually be available for another six months after that -- but when people are spending over $1k on a non-pro camera, they'll wait.

I had mine advertised on craigslist for $1500, the highest offer I recieved was $1100, and the buyer backed out when I accepted it. Now I have it sitting on eBay, and it looks like it's only going to sell for about $1k.

Cripes thats really cheap for an X1 .. Je .. .. they were selling for over £1K on

UK Ebay until quite recently , to be very honest though if an X100 and an X1 were

put in front of you on a counter and you were "not" seduced by the "Red Dot" then

you would choose the X100 every time , however i do personally like the dot.

For USD 1k I would not sell it. It's still the only truly pocketable (jacket, coat) aps-c sensor camera with superb lens and excellent IQ. And despite some exciting announcements of new toys, none of the high end ones is going to be as compact.

In truth the X1 seems to have had its day.

The X100 and other APS-C cameras pack more for the money with an equivalent IQ and now with the Lumix G3's sensor even m4/3 produces cleaner images at ISO 1600 and 3200 in a body that's barely larger when fitted with a pancake lens.

Perhaps if the X1 were more robustly built values would hold up better.

Not necessarily - there's still nothing like it for the size/IQ combination. For me where the X1 scores is in its simplicity - no video, no art filters, no panorama modes and the like, just straight forward, old fashioned photography - oh, and an amazing lens!

There's no way that images particularly high iso from the G3 can be in the league of those from an X1. The G3 is a nice camera, but the IQ difference is stark. Of course it depends on what compromise in IQ you are willing to concede. The buyers of the X1 like myself has no real alternative that is superior to the X1 in the big sensor small size arena, though I wish nikon/canon will step into the foray they have not, and nikon's mirrorless apparently has a sensor that is smaller than m4/3.

The X100 is a nice camera and substantial cost savings and some neat features but also larger. IQ is debatable so I guess really hard to say which cam is better in that department.

As for resale lets see how the X100 does after 2 years. That'll be a fair comparison. I am thinking it will drop in value similarly or perhaps worse than the X1 after the same period of time in the market. We'll see.

I'm sorry but this simply isn't the case.

The G3 with the 20mm pancake lens matches the X1 for detail and sharpness in a comparable size to the X1 with viewfinder.

I was astonished ( shocked and disappointed even ! ) when I found that at ISOs 1600 and 3200 I was getting cleaner pictures with the G3.

What the X1 lens gives is a colour that I love and that indefinable quality that shouts Leica where some images pop off the screen aided by the lower depth of field. It is a great little camera but so is the X100 with its beautiful colours.

The X2 has a lot of catching up to do.

Not what my eyes see on my screen. Have a look at raw files at 1600 and 3200 respectively of the G3, EP3, X1, X100. Clearly best of the bunch is the X100 followed by the X1. The G3 does remarkably well, though, compared to previous generation mft and is not far behind the X1. Panasonic DMC G3 Review: 17. Compared to (JPEG Higher ISO): Digital Photography Review

Much as I love DPreview you have to treat these things with care.

DPReview uses an Olympus lens in their tests of the G3 but using the 20mm lens more detail is rendered than by the X1 producing better results after processing. Straight from the camera G3 jpegs show less noise.

To compare sensor performance a comparison raw files makes more sense rather than jpegs.

Hello all

I must admit that if i didnt get the x1 as a used unit i would have struggled to justify the cost of a new one (with the extras i would want)

As it worked, from an official dealer i got a fairly new used one (feb 2011 vintage) all black version with official Leica viewfinder, Leica leather case and all boxes/papers etc for a good price that allows me to enter the wonderful world of high quality digital photography at a sensible price level (all things considered)

Needless to say, this is (or will be i assume) the beginning of that long road of lust until i reach the levels of the M9 (and/or whatever else there is in the coming years during my journey) assuming i turn out to be competent enough to warrant one?

I am very brand loyal and once i find something i like i usually never deviate from that path. I suppose this limits me somewhat but i have followed this philosophy for all my major purchases (cars, watches, hifi, binoculars (Leica again) and now camera) and i still enjoy them all.

You get what you pay for and so far i have no regrets and i am very happy with the X1

Mark

I am much the same - I could not justify paying the full retail price for the X1, even though I love it. I bought mine on ebay for £950 then bought the grip, spare battery and VF at retail. The ever-ready case was bought from the guy who sold me the camera. At the end of the day, the whole package cost a small fortune.... but I'm happy!
