maccarma Posted August 25, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, just bought a used Leica M7 Test Camera with the Netherlands flag. I've read somewhere here that the DX reader and the viewfinder should be upgraded.... Anyone does know the "history" of this camera? How many models were produced? Is that the case to send it back to Solms for an upgrade? Thanks for help....
Advertisement Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Hi maccarma, Take a look here M7 TEST CAMERA THE NETHERLANDS. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted August 25, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 25, 2011 I've seen quite a few of these 'test' cameras about, I don't think they are particularly rare and I'm not sure they were strictly test cameras rather than dealer promo/demo items. If yours has the pin type reader I understand that Leica will swap it for the later more reliable optical reader. You'd have to pay for the finder upgrade. Best to contact Solms for advice. }{B Posted August 25, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 25, 2011 Thanks! I contacted Leica directly.... I'd be interested to know what they said about the DX reader upgrade. Are they still willing to upgrade without charge?

}{B Posted August 27, 2011 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2011 Wishfull thinking. I know that, in my case at least, when you get past a certain age it's tempting to try to turn the clock back a decade or two. Since my last post I've done a bit of digging on the Leica web site and as there is no longer a full service centre in the UK Leica advise that cameras may be left with their authorised dealers who will then send them on to Germany. I assume that under this system there is some form of insurance should the camera be lost in the process and I'd feel happier leaving it with the Leica premier dealer I bought it from than leaving it to the mercy of the post office. andybarton Posted August 27, 2011 Share #11 Posted August 27, 2011 The insurance is all taken care of by the dealer. Stephens, for example, have courier collections and deliveries several times a week and the kit gets to Solms the next day.
}{B Posted August 27, 2011 Share #12 Posted August 27, 2011 Thanks Andy that is just what I wanted to know as Stephens Premier in Manchester is where I bought my M7. Once I get back from Scotland it looks like my camera is going in for the upgrade.
