martha Posted August 25, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know, I know, this has been covered ad nauseum in this forum.... I just followed Andy Barton's excellent instructions to try to update from 2.005 to 2.014 (I assume the latter is a later update since it's a larger number). I put the SD card in my 8.2 and waited and waited and waited after turning the camera on. No prompts. I have tried it twice, following Andy's instructions as well as the instructions on the Leica website, still no happiness. So, the question is: am I a dunce or is there something wrong with my camera? Thank you for any input you might have. --martha

martha Posted August 25, 2011 Author Share #2 Posted August 25, 2011 ....perhaps it's the SD card: 16GB Delkin?
stunsworth Posted August 25, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 25, 2011 Are you sure you're putting the .UPD file on the card not the .ZIP? Are you putting it in the root directory?
Tyranoquake Posted August 25, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 25, 2011 my best answer... Have you tried to format the SD Card? first try format at your computer, or cleanup your SD (remove all data and of course, the update file itself) and insert SD to your M8.2.... format from camera... remove battery and reinsert it... Simply use normal method for firmware update... *remember, the update files must be extracted from .ZIP to .UPD & do not put the file inside folder... martha Posted August 25, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted August 25, 2011 Are you sure you're putting the .UPD file on the card not the .ZIP? Are you putting it in the root directory? Yes, the UPD file. I am putting it right next to the DCIM file in my computer "Computer/Removable Disk F" DCIM. No joy!
martha Posted August 25, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted August 25, 2011 Strange!!!! I just turned camera off to reinsert battery and change SD cards again (per 'quake's recommendations) and received the prompt to install 2.014 firmware. Good grief!!! It's a muggy day here and a hurricane is coming--maybe it's the weather!!!! (joke!!!) Thank you both for your prompt replies. I love this forum, by the way. I learn so much here not only about my beloved Leicas, but also about post processing, printing, film and human nature. Thank you to ALL who contribute here. --martha

You'll receive many benefit from the new firmware.. Take a spin for new Fw.. and another recomendation.. buy a Sandisk Extreme III (30Mbps) for maximum perfomance.. it's pretty fast rather than standard SD card... enjoy.. cheers Brian Mo
jaapv Posted August 25, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 25, 2011 There is no reason to buy an expensive fast card - the camera will remain the same - Class 4 cards are already faster than the M8 and M9 top speed. It is like putting Z rated tyres on a car doing max 160 KpH
