Hi!

I've seen too many complaints on this forum about Leica service/repair that has not met the expectations. So heres a story how good it can be - on my vacation I dropped a M7 with Summicron 28 asph on a stone floor . No good, lots of Swedish words you would never understand and lot of frustration (apart from unknown internal damage the shutter didn't work and the focusing ring didn't move without a lot of force). Sent the camera to Solms on 1 August, received a cost estimate on 8 August, had the camera back yesterday, 15 August. Yes, I paid extra for "Fast Service". And yes, I'm very happy with the result and most of all, the service from Leica Service Dept.

Lessons learnt - have a good insurance (which I have, I only had to pay 120 €, the rest is covered by my insurance and they didn't reduce the insurance compensation due to the age of the camera. A Leica is a Leica... ) and have two M7. :)

Glad to hear of your good service. Curious how the reputation of ruggedness has changed. I remember in the 60s LFI (under its old name) reported how a sky diver dropped his M3 when the parachute opened and the strap broke. He found the camera, wiped off the mud, and it still worked. The ceramic pressure plate (early model) was cracked...
