davidbaddley Posted August 25, 2011 Share #21 Posted August 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Back in the M6 days, Leica offered a 50mm folding Elmar that came with a vintage-style press-on lens cap, thread-on shade, soft camera case, and a wrist-strap intended to carry the camera from just one eyelet! I liked handling the M6 in this way so much that I've fashioned a wrist-strap only set-up for every camera I've used since (including my M9) without thinking twice about it. Now I'm a little spooked. - David
Advertisement Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Hi davidbaddley, Take a look here lug strap eyelet. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MaNi Posted March 3, 2012 Share #22 Posted March 3, 2012 I just want to report exactly the same fault as Frank_t earlier. Last week one strap lug just came off while wearing the M9 around the neck with a the original carrying strap. I continued shooting but shutter stopped working shortly after. I assume the internal screws had something to do with that, it rattles when I shake the camera. When I took a closer look the other lug is loose as well. I will bring it to Solms on monday, it will be interesting to hear their explanation. I have still two M6 bodies and have had a number of earlier M's all used in the same way without any drops due to any mechanical failure. My recommendation to the forum users is to check your lugs... All the best, Magnus Nilsson (Sweden)
Paul J Posted March 3, 2012 Share #23 Posted March 3, 2012 I'm glad you got your camera and it was replaced under warranty. In your opinion do you believe it's something that we can all look out for? Do you think it worked its self loose or did it just snap without warning? I too worry about this happening while a Noctilux, or any other lens for that matter, is mounted. MaNi Posted March 4, 2012 Share #24 Posted March 4, 2012 Can't say how frequent this is or if it can be batch related. But in my opinion it is a failure by design or assembly. It appears that the lugs worked themselves loose since the remaining one was loose as well. My M9 is 2 years old and it has been used on a regular, weekly, basis. Based on this I recommend others to check. And on this trip my Noctilux stayed home, it was my well used Summilux-50 from 1966 that took the blow, those old metallic lens shades are quite strong... Btw, Leica has not yet excepted this as a "warranty" case. Br / Magnus
