When turned on my M8 now beeps and shows the following on the LCD .... " drive blocked " and then " shutter fault ". Especially galling - as this happened the day before I was about to trade the camera in on another purchase ........ I purchased it in mid 2007 and it has not had a lot of shutter activations - I would guess certainly less than 15000 - but of course I can't find out now as the camera is doing nothing but complain about its shutter ....... Serial Number is 332XXXX. This camera has already been back to Solms for rangefinder adjustment under warranty as is was not good enough straight out of the box. It came back perfectly adjusted. So it is out of warranty but on its way to Solms with a request for evaluation and advice about what my options are. Not sure if I should have confidence if the same type of shutter is used as a replacement .............. but don't know the current costs regarding the newer shutter, or if the problem with these older shutters has been eliminated. Guess I'll just need to be patient and see what Leica says. I know this has happened to others - but if anyone has been down this path before and would be willing to offer any advice that might help - I would appreciate it. Many Thanks.

The lug strap eyelet from my M9 just disconnected from the body. As I had wound the strap around my wrist several times it didn't drop on the ground. After recovering from a slight heart attack I could continue with my assignment but in the afternoon the camera showed "shutter fault" and stopped working. frank

Am I the only one with a problem with the shutter release? I was travelling recently in the southern islands of Korea when I found that I could not release the shutter on my M9. I could not figure out why so I went back to the D-lux 4, it never stops working! That night I decided that since it would be a while before returning to my dealer in Seoul, I would have a go at it. I found that the collar around the shutter release had unscrewed enough so I could not push the shutter release far enough to activate the shutter. I screwed the collar in and voila..the shutter worked fine. Has any one else had this problem? I wish all were as easily fixed. Since then I have noticed that the collar can be unscrewed so I now check it every once in a while to make sure that it stays tightly screwed down!!

After 3 weeks and only 170 pictures my new M9 gave a fatal "attention shutter fault" error, which doesn't go away after removing battery, etc. M9 delivered at the dealer: must be send to Solms and it will last 3 weeks or more. I read that some M8's had the same problem. Anyone has/had this problem with the M9 also and how was it solved? Should i demand a new M9?
