Adding Leica M9 lens profiles in Lightroom

Muizen

Recommended Posts

Jaap, In fixing lens distortion problems in Lightroom there is the option "Profile" where after clicking "enable profile corrections" distortion is corrected automatically but only if Adobe did include the lens that was used in the data base. There are only 3 Leica lenses in this data base. This is the reason for my question.

I know one can also manually correct distortion, but why not automatically when this is offered for so many Canon/Nikon and other lenses but hardly for Leica lenses.

And maybe these " Profiles" would correct the red issues with non-Leica lenses? I'm still waiting for a profile for my 21mm biogon. Does anyone have experience with these?

I believe that the 3 Leica lens profiles that Muizen refers to are for Leica "S" lenses, not the M9 35mm format lenses that we all use. I have asked a similar question in the past as to why there are no lens profile corrections for Leica M9 lenses. It may be that given Leica's inherent highly corrected lenses they are less needed. It also could be a reflection of the relative lack of numbers in the Leica User category as compared to other more widely used DSLRs. I have sometimes used Zeiss profiles for similar focal length lenses with good results, but the Zeiss lenses must have somewhat greater vignetting issues than Leica lenses, because often times the corners of my photos employing Zeiss profiles are simply lightened to too great a degree to be useful.
