Riccis Posted August 11, 2011 Share #21 Posted August 11, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica makes a 35mm Summarit f2.5, which is very nice according to users. It must not be a 7.000 USD second hand 35 Summilux ASPH FLE from eBay I can personally attest to the fantastic 35 Summarit and highly recommend it. Its size, ease of handling and sharpness makes it a winner. Don't listen to those that are quick to snub it for the new Summilux because of "bokkeh" or all the other nonsense you see online by gear heads. SiMPLiFY Posted August 11, 2011 Share #22 Posted August 11, 2011 Thank you all for the advise. ... the Summaron is a beautiful classic Leica lens, as well made, as Leica rarely makes new lenses anymore (obviously too slow for your needs, but it is indeed a low contrast lens, that often can pull out detail in the shadows, a modern 2.8 lens simply blocks. This sounds intriguing since by other two lenses are of the 1950's - 1960's vintage. I will definitely be on the lookout for a Summaron 35. I like the "look" of older lenses. For me sharpness isn't everything. I'll start saving my pennies again!
menos I M6 Posted August 11, 2011 Share #23 Posted August 11, 2011 Thank you all for the advise. This sounds intriguing since by other two lenses are of the 1950's - 1960's vintage. I will definitely be on the lookout for a Summaron 35. I like the "look" of older lenses. For me sharpness isn't everything. I'll start saving my pennies again! Kathleen, I am in a constantly moving spiral, deeper and deeper into older lenses. My first Leica lens was a 50 Lux ASPH, but I found, that I love the look of the older lenses a lot more than the contrasty, super sharp look, Today's lenses deliver. The chrome lens on the silver M6 is the tiny version I Summaron (there is a version II with identical optics, but changed - bigger - body and modern aperture ring design). I liked this classic design a lot more: "LTM fun" on flickr The Leitz Summaron was my very first contact in old lenses. I have made a blog post back in early 2010 about it here, when I used only the Summaron on a M8.2 for one whole day: gallery added - “shanghai - one day” A small series of pictures form that day is linked as well. It is good for low light shots on pushed BW film, as it also works with the M8.
MarkP Posted August 11, 2011 Share #24 Posted August 11, 2011 I think we are comparing apples and oranges here Nikon 35 f1.4 is 1970s design while latest M35 f1.4 is 2010, it is some 30-40 years difference. My point exactly. I was responding to the comment regarding the Nikkor being crazy sharp. Regrds, Mark
