Buying a new lens

Out on interest - which UK based dealers would people recommend - or Europe based for that matter?

You are UK based, walk into your nearest Jacobs, make sure you put deposit and you will get lens in no time.

I got mine in 3 weeks, this somewhat screwed my cash flow as I was expected delivery in 2 months as promised but I didn't complain after reading all the scare stories about 6-12 months delivery.

Looking to buy a Summilux 50mm. I've got the money - why must I wait for between 6 to 12 months. It's just crazy?

As you wait, convert your USD into gold, since a Summilux might cost more USD in 12 months:eek:

About a year ago I called all the little shops which advertize in LFI. They put me on their waiting lists and within a timeframe of about 4 weeks I got my brand new Summilux 50mm Asph.

I'm sure the approach would work for the Summilux 35mm Asph as well ;)

Cheers,

Peter

My dealer - that I placed an order with is still telling me that Leica are bringing out a new/revised version of this lens. Does anyone on the forum know if this is indeed the case?

I think your dealer is either mistaken or spinning a bit of a line. The lens seems to have been trickling in to dealers steadily since it first appeared last Summer and the lens as currently sold is the same (at least in terms of spec and appearance) as the one described when the lens was first announced (late 2009?). My own copy of this lens was delivered to my dealer only last month and there is nothing about it to suggest that it is any different to examples sold last year.

In the UK, I too recommend Jacobs, especially the main shop in New Oxford Street; ask for Donal.

However, for Leica, I can't recommend The Leica Store in Mayfair highly enough. The manager John is great as are Robin and Vijay. Good people!

Thanks. I'm just frustrated could I placed an order with one company who seem to be staffed by people who know nothing about Leica. I'm off to Jacobs - just need to get away from the office.

Pass on my hellos to Donal; he will look after you. As others have said, it's a case of ordering a lens and not just looking around as this can quite easily produce no results! Once you've ordered it, chances are it may turn up before it's time. Good luck :-)

I ordered a 35 Summilux in mid June, and it looks like it will arrive in early September.

Actually, I wanted it in chrome, and thought it might come with the M9P, but it seems not. So, I've settled for black.

Cheers

John
