rfm Posted February 10, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've had my M8 with firmware 1.09 for a week now . This morning I was taking photos and after pressing the shutter on the last shot the shutter began continuously recocking itself. This continued even after I turned the switch off. I eventually had to remove the battery to turn the camera off. I installed a new battery and the shutter once again began to continuously recock itself in any switch position even off. I downloaded the files of the SD card and they were all fine. I eventually figured out that I could make it stop recocking by accessing the menu and using the reset fuction. However, after doing this any use of the shutter button or off switch the camera would once again begin recocking itself continuously. I then drained the battery completly in the camera by stopping the shutter via the menu reset function and left it on fo 6 hours.I then installed a fresh battery and as soon as I turned the camera on the shutter began recocking itself again. I've run out of ideas to troubleshoot this.I will treck 160 miles to Austin and back in the AM back to the camera store. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards. stevem7 Posted February 11, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 11, 2007 This is not good. Every day I see a new M8 or two, or three break down or have major problems and there has not even been that many sold. Ive had mine for 4-5 days and i love it, BUT I am seriously thinking of returning it and waiting for the next model or upgrade or until they get these problems under control. Â It seems like it is having massive faiure, and usually after a week or more of use. Sorry to hear of your M8 troubles and i Hope you get it fixed, and in working condition. cbretteville Posted February 11, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 11, 2007 Ron, I've seen two reports like this previously and I'm sorry to say they had to get new cameras. - Carl
Guest hagen Posted February 11, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 11, 2007 That's a mechanical defect. Mine had the same after one day of use and was completely changed by Leica. The new one works perfectly. Glad to have only 1 1/2 hours drive to Solms :-)

MP3 Posted February 11, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine works fine since Nov 7 till now. These news keep coming up make me wonder whether I should ship it back for the 'upgrade'. Recent news on M8 and WATE do have bad impacts on Leica's standard of quality assurance... They need to look into it seriously. Â Best Matthew

I want all these early teething problems to have fixes so that I can get them all done at once and limit my "visits" to Solms to just one.  Woody
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 11, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 11, 2007 Leica does not manufacture this shutter mechanism. Â Blame ....
frc Posted February 11, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted February 11, 2007 Leica doesn't make it, what's that got to do with it? They chose it, they're responsible for the entire product, ah don't tell me, I see it all wrong.

I've had some correctible streaking/banding, but nothing like I have seen here, even when trying for it. What's the rush? Bob

Hope they nail these down asap.  Cheers Matthew

I live in Berlin, and my camera has already been in for the hardware update, but the focusing is off on either the camera, or one or more of my lenses. I would love to take a weekend trip to Solms to get it fixed, but only if they give me my camera and lenses right back. It took about 6 weeks to get it back the first time, and I am not willing to wait that long a second time.
