Val Posted August 9, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody, I just got my M6 Ti today after I've trade for it my Summicron 50 f2 6bit. The camera is brand new in the box, never used. I had the pleasure to put the first roll inside. Smells like new, and the leather is great. It was purchased by someone in 2001 and never used. Now my 28 Summicron Asph waits for some action. Any thoughts and advice regarding the camera? I currently have a M9 but I can't wait trying some film again. Compare with M9 I think M6 is a better build quality and much compact. Feels as heavy as the M9 as the body is brass ,from what I know ,on the titanium model. What b&w film is good for street shooting ? Is good to be here, Thanks Val

Allen in Montreal Posted August 9, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 9, 2011 ......What b&w film is good for street shooting ? Is good to be here, Thanks Val Val, 10 photographers will give you 13 different answers to that question! B+H has a 2 for 1 special that is still running on HP5, about 3 bucks a roll. Express and cheap shipping to Canada, GST/HST withheld at B+H so it is dropped right at your door. Process it in X-tol on harsh sunny days and D-76 1:1 in average light to the lower end and indoor light until you get the feel for what like/want. The M6 is a great camera, have fun, make some nice pictures, and welcome to the wonderful world of M6 and film!
christer Posted August 9, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 9, 2011 ..... What b&w film is good for street shooting ? .... As Val said. I don't use that specific brand though. Main thing is to get one from the big three for consistent quality and no surprises and then stick to it. Same for developer.
Val Posted August 9, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted August 9, 2011 Thank you all I will get a film today and take some pics in downtown Toronto Yeah, I was surprise to about the fact that the box was never used. I've got it from a photography teacher who moved to Toronto and this M6 is part of over 20 leica bodies, hasselblads etc that he got for his students. He closed the shop and now his trying to get some of his investment back. The oil and rangefinder is fine. I used to have an MP that I've trade it for a M9 Is funny what a familiar feeling I had when I held the M6 Thanks again for film advice
too old to care Posted August 9, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sounds like you got lucky on the camera. I waited years to get my M6 in the late 90s and have never regretted selling an older BMW motorcycle to pay for it. Film, I am old school, I like grain, but not too much. I also like narrow depth of field, thus I like slower films. I use Plus-X and love it. I know there are probably better films, but the ISO is high enough to allow me to use it in low light, and also has enough grain to add that special dimension to the shot. I think ISO is more important than brand of film or type. Nice find on the camera, enjoy it. Wayne
psamson Posted August 9, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 9, 2011 Val, I personally like Kodak TMax 100 or TMax 400. I also use the TMax P3200 on occasion but it does have a noticable grain. You might try a roll of each.
