I recently purchased a used silver M8 (s/n 3108xxx) and I noticed immediately that there seems to be quite a bit of play (side to side and forward/back movement) of the shutter release/mode selector assembly. Is this a "normal" thing or should I be concerned? The body is pristine and registers just over 2500 actuations. Looking forward to getting back into Leica shooting! It's not that mode selector moves from off, S,C and self timer - the entire ring ad shutter release move around like it needs to be screwed down... I figured it out - there are three screws holding the actual release button/mode switch to the top plate assembly. All three screws were extremely loose... Not a tear apart for the faint of heart! In the 9t photo down you will see the underside of the shutter release/mode selector. If you remove the (4) silver screws from the square block there will be (3) screws underneath that that actually hold the shutter release/mode selector to the top cover of the camera. Those (3) screws were all WAY loose on mine. To remove the top cover of the camera you need to remove the bottom plate, battery and SD card. then remove the (5) very small and easily stripped philips screws from the black plastic cover that makes up the "inner" base plate. Once that is done there will be (3) small philips head screws in the cavity under the shutter release area that need to come out. On the viewfinder side of the camera there is a hole to stick a screwdriver in to remove the remaining philips head screw. The top plate is now loose - watch out for the ribbon circuit when pulling the top cover off. Jeff Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
