Hello, since new to this forum I do not know if this would be the right section, if so, please move this thread to the correct one if possible.

My problem is that i own a camera of the above mentioned type. Leica C-Lux 2

Well everything went well since ages, but during my last holiday taking the last picture of a day the objective did not move in any more.

It just closed itself by pressing the "take picture button" for a milimeter each second.

The noise the lens motor made sounded like getting power only for a short time but this continously until it was closed completly. After that the sound disappered and the display just started to light up at minimum?!

Still I can review taken pictures or connect to a printer but each other camera option is not working anymore

Ok, guaranty not given any more, I disassembled the camera cleaned the gears of the objective from dust and sand, opened the gear box of the motor as well and did the same.

Even in this small gear box there had been just a single sand corn, but this thing blocked the whole rest of the cameras movement.

Well, tried moving the lenses by hand without the motor worked fine, getting out and in without problems. The motor itself without the rest is just moving in one diretion and only for about 1 second while pushing the button to take a picture.

Does anyone have a hint how to get this thing working again? I realy love this camera and wouldnt´t like to throw it away as many others would do.

Any information what might cause this crazy funtion as described above?

Thanks in advance,

The newbie

My wife has one of those, likes it a lot. A true shirt-pocket camera. Sadly yours sounds like it needs professional service. The good news is I'm fairly certain Leica will still work on it. The bad news is, these cameras are selling used for around $200 now, so there's a good chance the repair estimate will exceed that. It might be worth your while to look for a used one in working order.

Wekcome, WhiteCloud. Well you have gone a lot further than most owners would do; presumably you know what you are doing.

Your camera has been replaced by a later version so I suspect workshop repair and replacement of parts would approach replacement cost. The trouble is that you have dismantled the camera which might deter a repairer taking over your work. My instinct is that you should seek a modern replacement. I bought a C-Lux 3 earlier this year for my wife from a Leica dealer in the UK. It was new and reduced. You might ask a few Leica dealers if they still have stock of this model, which is a slight improvement on the earlier one.

thanks a lot for your help. Sounds like what I thought about as well. The disassembly was quite easy using the correct tools, but as I do not know what problem might cause this electrical malfunction, I will surely have to buy a new one.

I already expected a repair to be more expansive than a new or a replacement one.

Really no one ever realised a function like that? Just a simple - klick - klick - klick while pushing the "take picture" button having a black display?

Again thanks in advance.

The new one.

Hi I have a Panasonic CLux2 which I just took apart to clean dust and hair off the sensor.

It sounds like your lens motor is shot. I would suggest buying a used Panasonic version off ebay and either swapping the motor if that's possible, or fitting your Leica front/back plates to the Panasonic to turn it back into a Leica.
