jleicadlux5 Posted August 5, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently experienced loosing images with my D-Lux5. I only shoot Raw and images were collected on an 8 GB SanDisk class 10 card. The conditions were quite warm, temperature outside was over 100 F. Subsequent images shot inside in air conditioned home are all there. Might they have overwritten the exterior images? The lost images do not appear in the internal memory. Card reader is a Lexar Pro UDMA, that has worked perfectly for thousands of previous and subsequent images. Computer is Mac Pro, running OS 10.6.8. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks. macpants Posted August 9, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 9, 2011 It is difficult to figure out how this could happen. All your images, once written to the disc, will exist in 'allocated space' that is that they will have a 'live' file marker and an entry in a FAT (like a table of contents). The only way this might happen (as far as I know) is if your FAT (File Allocation Table) becomes corrupt and loses the references to the existing image files they could be overwritten. The trouble with this theory is that if your FAT becomes corrupt then, by rights, the card shouldn't work at all until it has been reformatted? It is a mystery but Toby is right when he suggests trying image recovery software. Though this might recover your lost images, it doesn't resolve the problem. I suspect it's your card rather than the camera. Have you had this problem with other cards?
