Advertisement Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Backlit abbey. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted February 10, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2007 Andy - I'm assuming you wanted to show not only a graveyard, but also a long-dead church. As such it succeeds magnificently in a "ghostly" way.
stunsworth Posted February 10, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2007 Hi Andy, this is so close for me. If it were up to me I'd burn out all of the detail of the foreground so all you could see was solid black in the foreground and the background silhouette. Nice shot all the same. robert_parker Posted February 10, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 10, 2007 Andy Agree with Steve - the sky is everything on this one - I think it calls either of a darkening of the foreground as Steve suggests, or alternatively a selective lightening of the foreground in PS to bring out the shadows - maybe a touch higher framing might have helped, too
andybarton Posted February 11, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted February 11, 2007 Thanks guys. This is Whitby Abbey - Dracula landed in England here, apparently This was taken at around mid-day, last Sunday, and I deliberately tried to get some detail in the foreground, to show the shadows of the gravestones. As I said, it hasn't quite worked the way I imagined it. Next time...
azzo Posted February 11, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 11, 2007 Andy, I would try harder to get the shadows that can be faintly seen to show more. By doing so, you'll end up with a much stronger image than it already is,IMHO. Azzo
jonoslack Posted February 11, 2007 Share #7 Posted February 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Andy Sorry if this is taking a liberty, and it's not great because I only had your small web image to deal with. I reckon you need to bring out the detail of the right foreground - I just did a bit of dodging and burning in photoshop, but I think it enhances your great composition, and adds a little drama to the shot. Forgive me if I'm being crass!
azzo Posted February 12, 2007 Share #8 Posted February 12, 2007 This is exactly what I meant. Wonderful Image. Azzo
