earleygallery Posted July 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just decided to take a screwdriver to my Clux2 (well it's the Panasonic badged one) as it was useless to me due to lots of dust on the sensor. I wish I'd taken photos now, but it's fairly straightforward. Just undo all the little screws you can see around the body, part of base and side trims come off then you prise the front and back plates away. The rear LCD is connected by ribbons so handle with care. You then see a square chrome plate with more screws - remove them and under that is the lens/sensor assembly. That chrome plate also holds the tripod screw mount in place, which might fall out. There's an inner small cover with 3 screws, remove them and there you have the sensor on the inside of the cover and the rear of the lens exposed. I used a blower brush and micro cloth to gently clean the area and then put it all back together, in reverse sequence. There was quite a lot of dust inside the case of the camera, so not surprising that some worked its way through to the sensor. I always thought that the zoomy lens sucked the dust in (I noted some dust specks inside the lens so this does seem to be a factor) but it seems that the dust I could see was on the sensor having worked its way in from the side. I did this on a whim and rather quickly, without any preparation, so I'm not sure if it's worked fully (battery on charge as it's not been used for ages). If there's still dust I'll try again with more prep and some sensor cleaning equipment, and I might put some scotch tape over the sensor plate to stop more dust working its way under. Fingers crossed!

earleygallery Posted July 28, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted July 28, 2011 LOL thank you. Well it seems to have worked, there's a small blotch if I zoom to the tele end and the lens is stopped down, so I'll have to redo it at some point but I mostly use it on the wider end of the zoom range so I'll live with it for now. I just bought a Minox 35 to replace it as my pocket camera too!
