ChiILX1 Posted July 18, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M2 and this strap (which I love): The Photo Village :: Black Label Bag :: Black Label Bag "Very Soft Strap" -- White Stitching Sometimes though, I want to use my classic M brown leather ever ready case. That involves taking off the strap, but it's connected via those annoying split key rings you find on key chains, which are annoying, slow, and sometimes painful to get off (if you don't have long nails and it cuts you under the nail). So I want a quick release replacement for those split key rings, but they need to be exactly the same size so that the strap's camera cushion is still functional. Any ideas? Thanks! Advertisement Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Hi ChiILX1, Take a look here Quick Release Camera Strap Ring?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thighslapper Posted July 19, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 19, 2011 Me too. I hate the split ring things as well. I'd like something that rotates too. I tend to carry my M9 with the neck strap wrapped a few times round my wrist so it functions like a wrist strap.... the damn rings make doing this a pain..... wda Posted July 19, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 19, 2011 At least the rings are secure. A quick-release strap looks like an invitation to thieves.
epand56 Posted July 19, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 19, 2011 ChiILX1, I think the only chance you have is the Sling, Hook and Y-Strap from Leicagoodies.com Very reasonable price and you'll hardly get back to normal strap. I didn't since I've got them. The Sling is very comfortable to take the camera safely in your hand. And when not in use you hang it again at the Y-Strap via the Hook (impossible to accidentally open it). I do not obviously have stocks nor other economic interests in Leicagoodies company. They simply improved the way I take my camera around.
giordano Posted July 19, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 19, 2011 Would it be possible to use the fittings from the ordinary nylon Leica strap with your soft leather? Once you've learnt how to use them they're a lot less hassle than split rings. If I have to deal with small split rings (IMHO the triangular ones are even worse) I lever them open by sticking a small screwdriver between the rings and turning it 90 degrees. I have a Sears Roebuck Craftsman Tool 4-way Pocket Screwdriver which does the job and fits nicely on a keyring.

There is a price to pay for using boutique straps, they are not quick release and simple to use. Steve
