DaveO Posted July 17, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I recently sent in a 36 exp roll of film to NCPS and the cost for developing, printing and scanning ( low res ) was $ 21. I am now thinking of sending in my next roll to York Photo. Does anyone have any experience with them. Good or bad. They would be about $ 11 for the same service. DaveO
Advertisement Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Hi DaveO, Take a look here Film processing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted July 17, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 17, 2011 I haven't tried York, but have had good results from Dwayne's Photo in Kansas - the last lab that processed Kodachrome. Multiple rolls at once save on postage.
DaveO Posted July 18, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted July 18, 2011 I sent my last roll of 120 to Dwaynes. They did a good job on the prints, but the scan was pretty low res. The price was pretty reasonable, but it took 10 days turnaround. DaveO
Lucklik Posted July 18, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2011 Processing your own film is not that difficult. I'm doing a lot of C41 processing and the results are better then the ones from the minilab.
rulnacco Posted July 18, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 18, 2011 To chime in on Andy's reply, have you ever walked into a business, and they have a sign on the wall that says, Choose any *two* of the following: GOOD FAST CHEAP It's kinda like that nowadays with film processing. tgray Posted July 18, 2011 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2011 Try Precision Camera. They have a special on rangefinderforum. $12/roll, developing and 4k x 6k scans. I've been happy with them so far. I used to use NCPS. I still would if not for Precision Camera. Personally I was happy with the budget scans over the enhanced scans at NCPS for the price. erl Posted July 19, 2011 Share #8 Posted July 19, 2011 Processing your own film is not that difficult. I'm doing a lot of C41 processing and the results are better then the ones from the minilab. I can only re-enforce the above quote. B&W processing yourself is dirt cheap and easy. The minimal equipment investment will be paid for by the saving on your first 5 or 6 rolls. Pick up second hand for peanuts! Colour process is just as easy, with the proviso of closer temperature control. That is easily effected by standing your tank in a bucket of water at correct teperature. Scanning will be the biggest stumbling block for most users, not the developing. Using a scanner skillfully is similar to using a Leica skillfully. You need to work at it!
