Checkland Posted July 16, 2011 Share #1  Posted July 16, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All,  I have a two lenses, 50 lux asph & 35 summarit, when I put the 50 on my MP and set to infinity and look at something really far away the images in the RF patch don't match, but with the summarit they do.  After a bit of testing here, (I'm away from home, UK, for another 5 weeks) I have come to the conclusion that the 50 may not be aligning properly at any distance. I don't have the passport for the lens with me and pretty sure it might have ran out.  I have been using it quite a bit so was really asking for others advice on what they would do? Obviously, I can just use the summarit for the remainder of time I'm here, no big dilemma! Just wanted to know if others had the same prob? Or what they would do? Did find other threads on here but no real conclusion as to what they did.  Also, if a trip to solms is needed what am I looking at £££ wise and time wise?  Cheers in advance
Advertisement Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Hi Checkland, Take a look here Infinity Focusing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k-hawinkler Posted July 16, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted July 16, 2011 If the 50 lux asph is still under warranty I would send it to Solms. If not, I would send it to Will van Manen Kamera-Service. Cathy Cuiper is an incredibly competent communicator, also via email. She will quote you a price for adjustment. Â Best, K-H.
jaapv Posted July 16, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted July 16, 2011 I'm not sure about the 50 asph; Contact Will first- it is a lens with floating elements.
Marty Posted July 16, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted July 16, 2011 If you have the chance you could verify focus of both lenses on a digital body (perhaps at a dealer?), then decide which to send in. Had the same sort of problem once, different lenses & camera, sent camera and lenses to Solms where I believe it was only the camera that was adjusted (under warranty). So no cost, and about 4 weeks in all.
Checkland Posted July 17, 2011 Author Share #5 Â Posted July 17, 2011 Thanks for the replies, I might try and get to the dealer, is there a leica shop in Rome? Only a couple of hours away from there if that. Â I can get someone to send the passports to as well so I can check the expiry, I know it was august I got the camera and lens, but can't remember how long the passports are, or indeed what year I bought them, possibly 2 years ago next month. Marty Posted July 17, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted July 17, 2011 Then you're in luck, Rome has its own Leica Store since a couple of weeks.
thighslapper Posted July 17, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted July 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) mmmmm...... Â I have two 50 luxes asph, one is well out with the images nowhere near coinciding and images not in focus at infinity, and focussing is off at other distances too. Â The other is out at infinity on the rangefinder, but in focus at infinity.... and spot on at all other distances. Â All my other lenses bar one (75/2) out of 14 are spot on so it is not a camera issue. Â If the images are in focus when set at infinity and focussed at 1-2m then I would be inclined to leave well alone..... if not get someone like Malcolm Taylor to check and adjust. Â A word of warning...... if you are checking this lens for focus at 1.4 you need to be VERY careful about test conditions ....... handheld and without viewfinder magnification and/or full dioptre correction may give you misleading results ..... and you need to take dozens of shots to ensure your results are consistent and repeatable. As mentioned above, you really need a digital body to do this painlessly..... Â Issues like this seem to pop up quite frequently with this lens ...... presumably due to the design and narrow adjustment tolerances.....
Checkland Posted July 17, 2011 Author Share #8 Â Posted July 17, 2011 Going to Rome on tues, managed to get hold of my passport, runs out on the 3rd August 2011 so I should really try to sort it here as when I get back home it will have ran out. Fingers crossed it will all pan out.
Checkland Posted September 15, 2011 Author Share #9  Posted September 15, 2011 so to give an update, I finally received back my camera and two lenses today, I know, about 6/7 weeks not 4!  Anyway, after it had been sent to rome and then on to here, I finally had it back! When i opened it all up and went to check the alignment, its more off than it ever was, like majorly, vertically! wont line up whatsoever!!  To add insult to injury there's now a scratch on the side of the baseplate that wasn't there before! To say I'm absolutely peed off would be an understatement!! Guess I'm gonna have to go down to London to see what they can do, also my expenses to go to and from Leica showrooms must be verging on £200  anyone else got any ideas? Checkland Posted September 15, 2011 Author Share #11 Â Posted September 15, 2011 Get extremely angry at whoever was esponsible? Â If they weren't in Rome and Solms I would!! Unfortunately I can feel some innocent bloke in Mayfair store will get an ear bashing if I can't stay calm! I'm normally a very relaxed/laid back person but this has took the biscuit!
