StephenPatterson Posted July 15, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 15, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm NOT a eb@y guy, but I saw this auction on the sidebar and it caught my eye. Fuzzy photos and all, it's hard to believe this is a genuine 4 digit IA Elmax converted into a II. I have no interest in this (read, I'm not bidding), but just curious what others think. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290585456119+&clk_rvr_id=247812216169#ht_1510wt_1141
Advertisement Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Hi StephenPatterson, Take a look here Too good to be true?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
StephenPatterson Posted July 15, 2011 Author Share #2 Posted July 15, 2011 Well, that was fun to watch. In the last 30 seconds the price went from $1500 to over $11,000. I hope it turns out to be genuine. It's amazing to me that someone would risk so much based on a bunch of fuzzy photos and a non-expert description. iphoenix Posted July 16, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 16, 2011 Looks to me as though it has been fairly poorly repainted.
luigi bertolotti Posted July 17, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 17, 2011 Ought to be a body of the 1926 batch 876-1300 (with # 1000 presented to Prof. Walter Schultze) . then converted to RF coupled Leica II (a standard conversion listed by factory); indeed, the above batch was equipped with the Elmax... the last before Elmar intro. Anyway... it seems to me an oddity that such a precious item is simply gone through ebay... unless there is "something behind"... ... such an item (both lens and body) can be "faked" from more common originals and acquiring it without a proper inspection / expertise is a risky biz.
