robsteve Posted February 12, 2007 Author Share #42 Â Posted February 12, 2007 Thank you everybody for the compliment on my new M8. Â I have now had a weekend to play with it and I am just figuring it out. Here are some of my observations: Â 1.) Code your lenses 50mm and below. I see vignette corrections happening even on the 50mm lenses. I am not talking about the cyan corners, but just normal lens vignette. Getting rid of this normal vignette makes it easier to correct the cyan later. Â 2.) Cyan corners/vignette starts with the 35mm lenses, with the worst lens for cyan corners being the 15mm Voitlander when a 486 filter is attached. Â 3.) Panorama tools seems to do a good job of correcting the cyan corners. Panorama Tools Plug-ins (16-bit) Â The PTcorrect plugin is the one to use. Select Radial Luminance and then fill in the values. Here are my curent favorite settings for the Red, Green, Blue. Â 24mm ASPH, 28mm Elmarit (Ver III) 5,2,2 35mm Summicron ASPH 4,2,2 Â 15mm VC 14,3.3,3.3 This lens I still haven't dialed in a correction I am happy with. I try some normal vignette correction (15) in ACR 3.6, but I still don't have it dialed in. Â 4,) AWB, Auto White Balance seems to perform like the DMR. It there is something white or neutral in the frame, the white balance will be close enough to send a jpeg to a photoplag and just ask the operator to make minor corrections. After all, this is what we did with film for years, trusted the C41 lab operator to make minor adjustments. I shoot RAW, so I like the WB close, but I don't mind adjusting it in conversion. Â 5.) Get an extra battery. My camera came with an extra battery and I am now wishing I had three. A battery lasts a day, but it is nice to have a spare. I shot all day today on one and just changed it this evening. I don't think I would have the patience to shoot with only one battery. They take a long time to charge. Â Â Here are two samples using the Panorama tools PtCorrect. Hopefully Leica will implement something similar in the firmware. Â First, 24mm ASPH, without correction and with correction. Â Â Â This is the 15mm VC. Â Â
msr Posted February 12, 2007 Share #43 Â Posted February 12, 2007 I opened the Noise Ninja profilling chart on my monitor and then photographed it out of focus using the M8 at 2500iso. I then generated the profile using this chart. Â Robert, can you explainthis a bit more? Where is the profilling chart that you pulled up to photograph? I'm trying to duplicate what you did but can't seem to find the chart. Â Thanks, Â Malcolm
harmsr Posted February 12, 2007 Share #44 Â Posted February 12, 2007 Malcolm, Â You use the 24 patch gretag macbeth color checker and photograph it as Rob stated out of focus. Â Best, Â Ray

I'm trying to duplicate what you did but can't seem to find the chart. Thanks,  Malcolm  Malcolm:  Open Noise Ninja and select the help menu. In help it has the directions for profiling. In those directions is the name of the profile jpeg. Search for that file name, open it in Photoshop and then photograph the monitor with the image out of focus. robsteve Posted February 13, 2007 Author Share #46 Â Posted February 13, 2007 Here is another one from today. It was shot with the 35mm Summicron ASPH at probably f2. The more I shoot this lens, the more I like it. Â I did some comparisons using my M7 and the 35mm frame lines are quite a bit wider than the 50mm frames on the M7. I know the conversion comes to 46mm, but i seems to shoot more like a 40mm. Â
