ChiILX1 Posted July 14, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted July 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just want to say publicly that I am disappointed in the metal body of the X1. People like the idea of metal because it's durable, but I have to baby the X1 like it's made of chalk. I leant it to my girlfriend and was next to her all day and it has 2 nicks in it. The metal is so soft that you can cut it with a knife. It really is like chalk. Â Compared to my M2 it's a plastic camera. I wish it was made of brass. JeTexas Posted July 14, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted July 14, 2011 I don't know, man. I know you've had bad luck with the top piece coming off already, but I carry mine all the time and have yet to scratch it. It's been across the pond twice and down to the boat every single weekend and my only damage was a crack on the Giottos screen protector from when it was hanging around my neck and got swung into the binnacle. Â My M3 feels sturdier as well, but it weighs 10x as much. Â Sorry for your bad luck.
jsrockit Posted July 14, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted July 14, 2011 I don;t buy the X1's body being all metal. When my "vulcanite" peeled off, it seemed very plasticky underneath. However, mine withstood a 5 foot drop to the ground with only a scuff.

M.Furo Posted July 16, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted July 16, 2011 I leant it to my girlfriend and was next to her all day and it has 2 nicks in it. See it this way: By nicking instead of being completely rigid the full force of the impacts weren't transferred to the interior components. (I don't know if it's true to a meaningful extent, but some things really work that way.)
