wattsy Posted July 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't know if it has been mentioned already but Digital Photo magazine are doing a promotion here. Free C1 Express 6 licence. Doesn't seem to be a catch.
Advertisement Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Hi wattsy, Take a look here Capture One Express - Free licence. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

erl Posted July 14, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 14, 2011 The 'catch' is that you will get hooked, or frustrated with some features missing and will have to upgrade to C1 Pro. Of course, I would recommend that anyway. It's great software.
wattsy Posted July 14, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted July 14, 2011 I've no doubt that's what Phase One are probably hoping for, Erl, but the Express version is supposed to cost $129 so the free offer is not one to be sniffed at.
erl Posted July 14, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2011 I totally agree Wattsy, it is good value. Very cheap bait and more power to them. As a freeby it is fantastic.

nggalai Posted July 20, 2011 Share #8 Posted July 20, 2011 I switched from Lightroom to Capture One Pro after getting my M9. DNG development results were just so much better; seems as if PhaseOne’s middle-format background makes them well-equipped for decoding CCD sensors’ signals. Licence management is a bit wonky (you need to activate your workstation / laptop separately), but otherwise? No problems whatsoever. Now, if only Media Pro were as stable as Lightroom’s Library module …

zlatkob Posted July 21, 2011 Share #10 Posted July 21, 2011 Same here. The deal seems to be over. The web site indicates it was limited to the first 45,000 downloads. So many were downloaded already?
erl Posted July 22, 2011 Share #11 Posted July 22, 2011 I downloaded this today. It crashes under OSX Lion every time I try to import just one Nikon raw file. In the bin with it. Andy, if you really want to try it, contact Phase One support. The help file on C1 are (nearly) hindrance files, but the tech support is fairly quick to respond. Go direct to their website and search for support. Explain your issues. It is most likely an issue (known?) between C1 and OSX Lion. Worth the basic effort before ditching. The software if is excellent, I will vouch for it. I restrain myself from saying 'bin the Mac or the4 Nikon', that would be just too inflammatory! Especially as 15minutes ago I took delivery of a Nikon D7000. Not for me, but for my daughter. Subject change: I have rediscovered the joys of film and darkroom, so the Leica 80mm/f1.4 lens, along with the R8 and Blad gear is off the market at present. Sorry.
