I never noticed before that the "bias" option isn't available in the Manual exposure mode as it is in the Shutter priority and Aperture priority modes - is that normal; Auto bracket and Flash options are available, but I do not see an Exposure bias as available in the Shutter and Priority modes.

Hi, Don,

Welcome to the forum!

(I'll assume your referring to Exposure Compensation): This makes sense to me. If you're working in manual mode then you're making all the decisions based on the information delivered from the DL4's meter so you need to know that the meter is not compensated (biassed) don't you?

When you half-press the shutter button in Manual Mode you see a graduated horizontal bar from -2 to +2, which is how the DL4 conveys its metering information. If the red blob is over the +1 it means that your picture will be overexposed by 1 stop so you need to adjust the aperture, shutter speed or ISO until the red blob sits over the 0 to achieve correct exposure.

If, for example, your shooting a snow scene using Manual Mode then you probably want to deliberately overexpose by 2 stops so that the snow looks white and not grey so you'd adjust the aperture, shutter speed or ISO until the red blob sits over the +2.

What you've then actually done is manually biassed the exposure.:)

Pete.

That makes sense - I kind of got a mental block since I like to shoot in manual mode more often than not and just couldn't quite get that through my brain, nor did I find it in the manual. Guess I just needed a little primer. Thanks again.
