doug_m Posted February 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I asked my Leica area sales rep to investigate whether or not one can safely leave the M8 lens detection on all of the time as I have 2 coded lenses (28/35) and 2 uncoded lenses 50/75. I have no desire to code the (50/75) lenses unless someone on can tell me why I should spend the money to do so. After contacting the in house Leica experts, my area sales rep told me that I can safely leave the camera lens detection on all of the time regardless of whether the lens being used is coded. The instruction manual specifically states that the lens detection should be turned off when using non-coded lenses in order to prevent electronic failures. That said, I know a lot of people are leaving it on with non-coded lenses, and I expect it would be very difficult to remember to switch it everytime a lens was changed. wparsonsgisnet Posted February 8, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 8, 2007 I think we need a new, official statement on this. I switched it on some time ago to see if the exif file would write the lens info anyway, as discovered by some users. Would one of the guys here with a pipe to the ear of Leica ask about this? tnx,

Philippe D. Posted February 8, 2007 Share #9 Posted February 8, 2007 Hello there! The instruction manual specifically states that the lens detection should be turned off when using non-coded lenses in order to prevent electronic failures.I just let it on for code detection. I use one factory coded lens and some home made coded as well as other lenses without codes at all (old screw lenses with M39 adaptors). Didn't see any differences till yet.
