Advertisement Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Hi Washington, Take a look here What the Hail Is This?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Robert_M Posted July 8, 2011 Share #22 Posted July 8, 2011 Rip and K-H, and others, I'll scan the info and manuals I have and post some summaries this weekend. Couldn't do much last night since our monsoon season is now upon us and I was without power for all evening. That's life in the SW desert: No rain for 81 days and then violent thunderstorms all at once. At least we have water again.... So, I was very close on my guesses. These items are indeed for the original PIGRIFF system and NOT the Pigriff-B. The first section is indeed the PITUB-J which you will find coupled with an adapter most often. This piece is 36.5mm long and I have assumed it was to be used in place of the original bellows. The original bellows was LTM screw mount at both ends, hence this unit is just a LTM spacer of about the same length as the bellows fully compressed. You can not use this piece when adapting to the visoflex since it is too long. The second piece, WEBLEI-P-16: I was close but ..... That is an adapter which is used to connect the Novolex (along with the PITUB-J) to a Pathe Webo 16mm cine camera. You will have to do a www search to find info on that. I don't know the specs of that mount. Apparently there was also a 9,5mm Webo system. Maybe there is a cine fan out there who can tell you more. CAUTION TO ALL: When looking at these Novoflex parts, be careful not to confuse the earlier Pigriff mounting adapters, which are all screw mount, with the Pigriff-B and later adapters, which have a bayonet system. All those adapters ending in "BA" and "A" are the current ones for the bayonet system (ie, VISBA, VISA, NIKBA, etc.). This original system will will have adapters ending in "LEI" for the Leica Thread (39mm-26tpi). Yes, the Novoflex labeling is just German acronyms in a logical ordering for the parts. It isn't too hard to understand especially since the English words are often very similar. Pigriff, for example is short for Pistol Grip. Pistol is pretty much the same in German and English and it isn't too hard to see that "Griff" is German for "Grip". The German language loves acronyms, probably because some nouns can be very long. We have even taken to absorbing some of these into English. For example, FLAK, a common English word (at least in America) comes from the German acronym invented in WWII era (FLeigerAbwehrKanonen = flyer+defense+cannon in English). Robert_M Posted July 8, 2011 Share #23 Posted July 8, 2011 In looking further on the catalog lists I have, I wasn't that far off with the second part. Pathe Webo is a C mount camera. For the later style pigriff-B, the adapters are CEBA and CEA (with and w/o bellows used). I had the correct logic in my guess at the earlier adapter name, but Novoflex didn't use consistent terminology in this case. Hence, WEBLEI.
